Cork’s newest venue Urban Jungle officially launched itself to the public with a bang last Saturday night. The second you open the door, you are welcomed to a plethora of interesting things you wouldn’t expect to find in a Cork city bar.

There’s a mishmash of objects dotted around the room as you enter: car bonnets (which have been artistically enhanced by a local graffiti artist and are for sale), broken skateboards, reshaped vinyl art records (which are made by a local artist and are all for sale separately), and plenty of plants. Then, you are greeted by the bar, where the staff are dancing and laughing away to the customers. There’s also a barber shop area which is in operation during the day, as well as a tattoo parlour in the back of the room in a custom made, kitted-out studio.

On the lower level are ping pong and foosball tables. The main aspect of the night was the music. Cuttin’ Heads Collective are a group of DJs in Cork that have recently joined forces to bring beats and real hip-hop to the city. Tomas Mc’Sky started the night off perfectly, JusMe a local and seriously talented skratch artist was up next, followed then by Aaron Itchi. Deviant & Naieve Ted also made an appearance for a bit of three deck skratch madness. These guys, individually and collectively, absolutely smashed it and had the whole place hopping, very appreciatively. These guys know what they’re doing and the music fit in perfectly with the alternative, but not too in-your-face vibe the venue is going for. There’s no shortage of things to keep you occupied in this place and has evidently got a lot of promising potential. Cuttin’ Heads Collective are there again this Thursday coming (8th) for Cork’s ONLY hip hop night. We’ve no doubt it’s going to be another cracker of a night
