What’s the name?
Where’s he from?
“Portarlington, Co. Laois; a very small sheep farm… small in acres that is, not with tiny sheep.”
Who do you compare yourself to?
“I compare myself to other comedians. I try not to get too hung up on the success of others who might be younger or newer to the job. However, I get inspired by others who work hard, think outside the box, do the job really well and manage to stay nice people.”
So Steve, where do you see yourself in five years?
“Hopefully working hard on a variety of comedy: Stand-up MC, musical, T.V, movies, theatre, drawings, books, puppets, whatever I can get my hands on.”
Where did it all start for you?
“I started doing comedy in NUIG Comedy Society in first year of college, got properly into it when preparing for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2012. It keeps me sane and happy and it’s always a challenge. What more could I want? Money, Money is the answer.
Who do you cite as your musical/comedic idols?
“I love David O’ Doherty, Flight of the Conchords, Dara O Brian, Dave Allen, Tommy Cooper, Dave Chappelle, Amy Schumer, South Park, Rick and Morty, Venture Bros, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and I’m a big, crap movie fan: The Room, Troll 2, Hard ticket to Hawaii, Miami Connection.”
You can find Steve every Friday, upstairs in the Roisin Dubh as the host of the Comedy Clubh. More info on future gigs at stevebennettcomedy.com
