Mikko Joensuu’s new track, Sometimes You Have to Go Far’, has recently been premiered on Clash Magazine. This song will appear on Joensuu’s upcoming album Amen 1 which is coming out on the 10th of June 2016 via Svart.

Amen 1 is the first part of the trilogy. The second and third instalments are due out late 2016 and early 2017. According to Joensuu, the first part of this triple album is the most fragile, as it tries to showcase the balance between beauty and sadness, and Joensuu also lays bare his emotions as well as his state of mind. The singer’s raw and poignant emotion is ever present in the newest track Sometimes You Have to Go Far, which was recorded in a remote cabin located in the depths of the Finnish woodland.

In the summer of 2012, Joensuu built a studio in a cabin by a lake where he has written and recorded the songs that make up all three parts of the trilogy. Although they may be different, they stem from the same state of mind and they express the same story is various ways. Amen 1 taps into American folk music tradition and the songs that make up the album are deep and healing, often giving the listeners the feeling that they need to spend time in intimate surroundings, much like the way that this album was made. The arrangements that accompany Joensuu’s unique voice are mostly piano and a guitar, with pedal steel guitars and soothing string sections making an appearance where appropriate. It’s perfect combination of raw and beautiful.
