We are drawing ever closer to the inaugural Metropolis Festival and there are more brilliant acts to announce! In addition to an already stellar line up of artists, we can look forward to welcoming Hot Chip, Vic Mensa, Le Galaxie, Formation, Booka Brass Band, Flight Facilities, Omar Souleyman, Vince Staples, Trinity Orchestra (performing LCD Soundsystem), FLOATING POINTS, Four Tet, White Collar Boy, Gemma Dunleavy, CLU, Benji Band Forrests.
Hot Chip recently released their 6th album Why Make Sense, which hit the Top 5 in the Irish Album Charts. They are known for their jaw dropping live sets, having just played a belter of a set at Electric Picnic. This UK electronic quintet are not to be missed.
Since their inception in 2009, Flight Facilities have proven themselves to be one of electronic music’s most consistently popular song-writing duos. Their first hit Crave You became the unofficial soundtrack to summer parties from Sydney to Stockholm, and they’ve since released six successful singles, including the self-released Clair De Lune. Having sold out Vicar St in Nov of last year, and fresh from a totally captivating headline appearance at Body & Soul this summer, we can’t wait to welcome them to the RDS!
At the age of 22, Chicago native Vic Mensa has already established himself as a heavy hitter. Signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, he has toured with J. Cole and Wale, toured Europe with Danny Brown and has collaborated with Kanye West and Sia on Wolves, the first track on Kanye’s forthcoming record So Help Me God.
Kieran Hebden AKA Four Tet, brings his LIVE show to Dublin for the first time since Forbidden Fruit 2013. His unique sound and melodies incorporate elements of hip hop, electronica, techno, jazz, grime and folk music with live instrumentation, with some of his newer tracks being inspired heavily by techno music. He’s also remixed tracks by the likes of Aphex Twin, Explosions In The Sky, Super Furry Animals, Radiohead and Manic Street Preachers, amongst others.
2015 has been THE year for Irish heroes Le Galaxie with the release of their 2nd album Le Club to critical acclaim. These guys put on a seriously amazing show –and with tracks like Carmen, Le Club, Humanise and Lucy Is Here in their arsenal, only the coldest heart would stand unmoved by their live sets.
Hailing from Long Beach, CA, our next act is guaranteed to impress. Vince Staples. One third of the Cutthroat Boyz, he has also collaborated with Odd Future. He released his debut solo album Summer ’06 through Def Jam, and performed on Jimmy Kimmel just last week.
Following a belter of a set at Forbidden Fruit this summer, we are looking forward to bringing back the brilliant FLOATING POINTS. Producer/DJ/Musician Sam Shepherd aka FLOATING POINTS has been on the scene since his debut release in 2009. Sam has been a firm fixture of radio show playlists worldwide and can be heard gracing the sound systems of the globe’s more respectable nightclubs and warehouses. He is quickly gaining a (well deserved) reputation as one of the world’s most exciting DJ talents, travelling the globe with his handmade E&S rotary mixer.
Omar Souleyman gets any audience to their feet with his incredible reworking of Syrian folk music. His performance at the Rankin Stage at Electric Picnic 2014showcased his unique take on minimalist electronica and left the crowd wanting more.
Next up, we’ve got Formation, two brothers who hail from South London. Influenced (not heavily, mind) by vintage disco and soul sounds, the duo do a beautiful line in warm understated electronic pop.
Irish 8-piece Booka Brass Band feature trumpets, trombones, saxophones, sousaphones and drums – and know how to get a party started. They’ve performed the length and breadth of the country and have been special guests to the likes of Hot 8 Brass Band and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble.
We’ve got Benji B, one of the UK’s most respected DJs. He’s renowned worldwide for his radio shows and his club sets and is swiftly being regarded as a leader in the future music movement. His sets take in anything from soulful electronic music to hip hop, house and beyond. He has worked with Kanye West’s creative team as music consultant and producer for ‘YEEZUS’ as well as most recently providing an official remix of Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’ as well as running Deviation, which over the course of the past 8 years has become one of London’s very best club nights.
Come along and catch Trinity Orchestra Present LCD Soundsystem. Trinity Orchestra is Ireland’s only fully student run orchestra. These guys have been swiftly gaining recognition for their covers of various artists like Daft Punk, Arcade Fire, Pink Floyd and Sigur Ros. Prepare to hear LCD Soundsystem in a whole new way!
White Collar Boy are a two-piece electronic-garage group from Dublin. The pair share a love of new wave and electronic music, making it a natural progression for them to pair up in their creative endeavours. They have recently released an EP through Bodytonic Records and host residencies in Dublin. Keep an eye out for their debut LP coming in 2016.
Having captured the imagination of audiences at Electric Picnic, Life, Body & Soul and Fringe Festival 2014, Dublin electronic duo CLU will yet again combine audio and visuals for their set in November. Inspired by 1980s science fiction films and 8 bit computer soundtracks, this promises to be a memorable feast for the eyes and ears.
Irish vocalist Gemma Dunleavy, previously one-half of electronic group UNKNWN, has more recently teamed up with English producer Murlo where she adds her soulful atmospheric vocals to the two-track EP Jasmine. Her soulful vocals will surely make her one of the surprise hits of Metropolis.
Since the release of their debut EP Wilder, Irish electronic two-piece Forrests have played a number of headline shows throughout Ireland and the UK. Using synthesizers, guitars, machines and hand-built instruments, their unique sound has been garnering lots of media attention.
So, there you have it! We’ve got a full to bursting line up of amazing artists coming to Metropolis. Across 6 rooms, this 2 day affair will feature live music, performance, conversations (featuring a handpicked panel of creatives) and unique installations which will transform the RDS into an audio-visual playground. Our conversation line-up, curated by Greedy Pig, and our installation line-up will be announced in the weeks to come. Early Bird Tickets sold out quickly, so grab your tickets while you can!
