Canada’s sweetheart, also known as a teen heartthrob, Shawn Mendes, has just released his new single “Treat You better” from his upcoming sophomore album “Illuminate”.

In the music video of TYB, his object of affection is shown suffering from an abusive relationship, and so forth the storyline plays Mendes trying to end the abusive relationship. This video is gritty as he digs deeper into darkness. He sings as the track opens: “I won’t lie to you / I know he’s just not right for you.” He promises to be a better man in the lyrics: “I know I can treat you better than he can / And any girl like you deserves a gentleman.” This tune includes a catchy pop melody, guitar picks, and a great chorus.

The lyrics in general as a standard for this genre. It’s a cliché “boy likes girl” scenario, but also include the drama in which the girl is in a relationship, with some other guy. The music is comparable to tropical music. There is an emotional deliverance in this ballad.

Mendes premiered the lead single off his new album “Illuminate” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on July 11th.
