He revealed that he has lost six pounds in the second weigh-in of the RTE show, doubling his target of three pounds.
Speaking to The Ray D’Arcy Show on RTE Radio 1, Gerald said that losing those extra pounds has made a big difference in his life.
“I ran down the steps coming into the studio, I ran from the car park. I skipped in the corridor,” he told listeners.
“There’s a new dimension to my life. It’s great. I’m loading the washing machine and everything myself.”
Legal eagle Gerald dropped a whopping 17lbs in the first week of the programme but the dramatic weight loss didn’t impress the show’s fitness experts. In fact, Karl Henry cautioned him for undergoing excessive exercise, warning him that it was a “course for disaster”.
This week, however, his efforts were praised by the fitness team and Gerald said that it has made a “phenomenal” change to his life.
The lawyer, who entered the show weighing 19 stone seven pounds, suffers from type 2 diabetes but has drastically reduced his intake of insulin due to the improvements he’s made to his lifestyle.
The 59-year-old also admitted that filming the show makes him feel very exposed as the cameras are with him “all the time, from six in the morning until [he gets] home at night”.
The well-known lawyer recently revealed to the Sunday Independent that he used to eat out 19 times a week, including “seven lunches, seven breakfasts and then five nights.”
So it’s safe to say that reducing his indulgences and overhauling his lifestyle hasn’t been easy.
Kean admitted to Ray D’Arcy that since making the changes he misses “meeting up with the lads after work and having a cigar and a few glasses of wine and a good chat”, however he said he needed “to do something and I needed to do it quick.”
