If a bit of classical tickles your fancy, head over to the National Concert Hall, February 5th and 6th to catch some of Stravinsky’s finest works performed by musicians as skilled and varied as The RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and the RIAM Ensemble. Igor Fyodorovich Stravinsky, who shuffled off this mortal coil in 1971, left behind some of the most exquisite works ever written and he’s widely considered to be a pioneer in pushing musical boundaries. The concert kicks off at 8:00 p.m. both nights and tickets range €15-€35.
While on Sunday 7th, we have Greg Dulli performing at Whelan’s, Dublin at 8:00 p.m. Dulli is arguably best known as a member of The Afghan Whigs who he joined in the late eighties and with whom he released albums such as Big Top Halloween, Congregation and Black Love. His solo tour comes to Galway’s Róisín Dubh on Monday 7th. Tickets are €23; don’t miss this chance as it’ll surely prove to be a mesmerising experience.
Also in the Róisín this February 5th, Jason Byrne brings his 20 Years a Clown tour to Galway. Described as, “20 times better than brilliant”, it’ll be a hilarious night out for one and all, full of chortles, gut-busting guffaws and straight-up laughter. Tickets are €22 and the show starts at 8:00 p.m.
Down in our Southernmost County, the Quarter Block Party is taking place from February 5th-7th on North and South Main Street, Cork City. Featuring non-traditional venues and outdoor events, the party amazed audiences in February 2015 and promises to do so again this year. If you’re in the mood to party, or go on a weekend bender, this is the event for you. Tickets are €12.50, a bargain rate for a party as epic as this.
