After living in the City of the Tribes for – on and off – 10 years now, I’ve had the crowing pleasure of getting my crop chopped by almost every cutter, snipper and stylist that our wonderful town has to offer. Yes, from Salthill to the City centre I’ve been buzzed and butchered in many a barber’s chair.
Having recently moved to the East side of G-town, I randomly came across a hidden gem located in the midst of Doughiska – which some have christened ‘Little Eastern Europe’, thanks to our wonderful non-national neighbours.
Headmasters Barbers is a kind of ‘blink-and-you’ll-miss it’ style premises sitting just above Jack Jordan’s Diner on the main Doughiska to Ballybrit road. Although it’s hidden away, we don’t want to keep these guys a well-kept Galwegian secret!
Catering to kids, adults, students, and seniors, Faro and the other lads will give you the works; whether it’s a quick cut, or a long-overdue chop.
The lads also specialise in beards, moustaches, wolverine-style mutton chops and any other named facial-hair style you can think of. Sit back and relax with a free beer (yes, a free beer) and treat your hard working self to a relaxing, hot towel shave for a very reasonable €20.
Why stop there? The gents in Headmasters also offer my personal favourite, Indian head massage – 20 minutes of sheer heaven!
While you’re waiting patiently to be tended to, Headmasters also provides a dart board, and did we mention the booze? Of course we did! To make the place even better, there’s a tattoo studio. It’s a one-stop-shop for all your style needs.
Should you be ‘putting a ring on it’ anytime soon, have the lads spruce you up for that big day and enjoy some complimentary cigars and some very fine whiskeys; you’ll walk up the isle like a ride full of dutch courage.
