The Galway 2020 volunteer team are now back in full swing following the brief summer hiatus/post festival season hangover. Last weekend the team were present at three different festivals around the county, and initiated a very exciting intergenerational project in the Galway 2020 hub ‘121 Digital’. The 2020 team would love if you could join them at the next ‘Volunteer Meetup’, which will take place on Wednesday 2nd September at 8 pm.
The 25th (yes the 25th!) Galway 2020 ‘Public Speak Out’ will take place in the Loughrea Library, Church Street on Thursday 3rd September at 7 pm. As well as learning more about Galway’s bid to become the European Capital of Culture, the Galway 2020 team would love to hear your vision for the bid on the night! To register to speak at the ‘speak out’ or to submit a project for Galway’s bid contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
The 2nd inter-generational ‘121 Digital’ class will take place on Thursday, 3rd September at 7 pm in the Galway 2020 hub. The classes which are being organised by one of the leading Galway 2020 volunteers, Brenda Kennelly, involve younger members of the Galway 2020 volunteer core teaching basic digital skills (mobile, laptop, tablet etc.) to older members of our community. As the waiting list for the classes grows rapidly by the day, more volunteers & mentors are welcome to get involved in this brilliant initiative.
Cúirt International Festival of Literature will present two evenings of literary readings, screened directly from two of Europe’s most prestigious festivals. The second evening of screenings will be from the Festival of World Literature, Croatia and will take place at 8pm on Friday 5th September in the Galway 2020 hub.
