Galway City’s Chief Executive is encouraging the Galway 2020 team to step up to the mark in the 2020 European Capital of Culture race.
Galway City Council’s Brendan McGrath has likened the race to winning the Olympics, reiterating they cannot reapply until 2035. A second bid will be placed in May, after which the judging panel will visit Galway in July. A final decision is expected in August.
If the City of the Tribes takes the cultural crown the Irish Government will invest €15m, with €1.5m from the EU.
