Over the past two years Emma Doran has become a firm favourite on the Irish Comedy Scene, playing festivals this year like the Vodafone Comedy Festival as part of Al Porter’s Comedy Shed and Longitude. But having just had her third baby in February, Edinburgh wasn’t on the cards this year, so she’s decided to bring her own show to the Mill Theatre, Dundrum.
The build up to September and back to school can be a busy time for Mums, so this could be just the ticket, ‘Mammy needs a drink’. Perhaps more close to the truth then we’d care to admit. Emma has three children 12, 2 and 7mths, so yeah a bit of an age gap. When Emma had her eldest she was doing her leaving cert at the time, as she says herself, “if biological had been a practical exam I would have aced it.” In her show Emma covers everything from family, dead grannies, children, teen pregnancy, and loadsa’ sex, or lack there of!
She also got a name as the pregnant comedian earlier in the year. “I didn’t mind gigging while pregnant, I just used to tell the audience if you don’t laugh I will go into labour. So that usually did the trick”. Do you think anyone would offer me a seat though?
