Do ya like good music? is a brand-new feature here on Nitelife. Each week, we’ll be chatting to an industry insider about some of their favourite tunes, venues and musical sensibilities. It could be a music promoter, a D.J, or even a very well-known face! Whoever it may be, we’ll be getting the inside scoop on their melodic recommendations and, just for our lovely readers, an exclusive Selfie.

This week, Aisling Daly from Monroe’s Live, Galway, dished the dirt on her favourite festivals, her go-to party piece and lots more.

D.M: What was the first album you bought?
A.D: Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’. Technically my parents bought it for me!

D.M: What was the first concert you attended?
A.D: I’m not telling, it’s embarrassing!

D.M: Favourite cheese tune?
A.D: Toto – Africa

D.M: Who is your favourite current artist?
A.D: Difficult question. There are so many. I’d have to say Sylvan Esso. I saw them in Whelan’s last month and they blew my mind.

D.M: What is your favourite music festival?
A.D: Body & Soul without a doubt.

D.M: Most memorable gig?
A.D: Jack White in Kilmainham last summer. He played over-time, so the sound was turned off and the crowd sang with him instead. It was emotional 🙂

D.M: Party piece/house party song?
A.D: The Animals – House of the Rising Sun

D.M: Favourite Irish music venue and why?
A.D: Monroe’s Live of course! It’s probably the only venue where you get a mix of everything: trad, rock, folk, bluegrass, reggae, ska; you name it, they’ve got it!

D.M: What gigs will you be attending this year?
A.D: Castlepalooza Festival, Another Perfect Day Festival, Damien Dempsey, Sinead O’Connor/ John Grant, Danko Jones, Eagles of Death Metal to name but a few! Anything that I can manage to get to really.

D.M: Top 5 artists/bands/musicians?
A.D: It’s so hard to narrow it down, if I think too much about it my head will explode! So, the first ones that come to mind are – Tom Waits, The Black Keys, Paul Simon, Alt-J and Fleetwood Mac.

D.M: If you could recommend one band, who would it be?
A.D: The Rolling Tav Revue, they are one of the best Irish bands I’ve seen live in years! We had them at Monroe’s Live recently and they’re such good fun. If you get a chance, go see them…oodles of craic.

D.M: Who is your one-to-watch for 2015/16?
A.D: I’m going to cheat, I’ve got two. Firstly Rocstrong. They’re a really well put together group, even though they’re young, they’ve got a great sound…really funky. My second is electro-pop group, Sylvan Esso. They released their first album last year and it is so good, can’t wait to see what they do next.

A big huge “CHEERS” to Aisling for taking time out of her hectic schedule, to chat with Nitelife. You can follow the gorgeous Ms Daly on Twitter @AisDee.

Daly is a former Journalist and Co-founder of Galway Escargot, the city’s first snail farm.

Here’s one of Aisling’s ones-to-watch with their amazing tune “Coffee”. Next week, we’ll be catching up with…well that’s a secret 😉
