On 25th of April 2015, a horrible tragedy unfolded in Nepal; an earthquake killed and injured thousands of people. Although it may be culturally a rich country, Nepal is struggling both economically and politically. The earthquake greatly affected the lives of the citizens as it had knock-on effects on multiple aspects of life, including; mental health, tourism, disease, urbanisation and many more. It had also destroyed many houses, which left millions of people homeless. Furthermore, it had caused avalanches on Mount Everest as well as landslides in the Langtang Valley which caused 79 deaths and left five times as many either missing or injured.

Following the catastrophic earthquake that reached magnitude of 7.8 (strongest earthquake recorded in worlds’ history was 9.5), Nepal suffered both economically and socially. As one of the poorest countries in Asia, it has had a hard time funding the reconstruction efforts on its own. Human traffickers who are involved in supplying girls and women to brothels in South Asia took advantage of the situation and the chaos that was caused by the earthquake. Many women were affected, especially the ones that were homeless.

Although it has already been almost a year since the catastrophic events that occurred in Nepal, the damage has been so great that the citizens are still very much in need of our help and support. Two associations, Touch Ireland and Montys of Kathmandu Templebar have teamed up to organise a black tie dinner and an amazing auction. The money raised will go towards the rebuilding and regeneration of the areas that were affected the most by the earthquake.
