Following last week’s announcement highlighting just some of the Conversations that will be featured at the inaugural Metropolis Festival this November, we have yet another exciting element to reveal. As the very first of the art installation announcements, Metropolis will welcome the unrivalled Arcadia Spectacular to the grounds of the RDS.

Arcadia were set up in 2007 in order to push the boundaries of spectacle and sensory experience. They rework discarded military machinery and industrial components – turning them into dance arenas. The full ARCADIA experience unifies every element into a vivid and breath-taking sensory matrix. They fuse sculpture, architecture, theatre, circus, robotics, engineering, lightning, music and cutting edge technology together to create some of the most exciting stages on show today.

Metropolis are, “incredibly thrilled to announce they will be bringing their amazing interactive stage The Afterburner to Metropolis. This will be one of the eight stages and spaces to explore at Metropolis!

The Afterburner is a 360 degree, fully rigged stage. Built from recycled materials, it is designed to create an immersive arena.

A central, flaming spire above the DJ booth radiates light, while a sound system surrounds it and spiralling arms reach INTO the crowd, creating multi-level dance platforms and layered spatial dynamics.

The Afterburner is designed to transport a 4000 person strong dance floor to another reality. With a DJ booth at the core of the structure, its towering spire fires 30 foot flames into the air as a barrage of light and visuals shoot out across the crowd in channeled synchronization.

Arcadia have been a key do-not-miss feature at Glastonbury and their stages have featured in some of the best festivals worldwide – with Afterburner Stage  being one of the highlight’s of this year’s Ultra Miami 2015.

Last month, Arcadia put on an absolutely unforgettable new show, ‘METAMORPHOSIS’ in their hometown of Bristol as a part of the city’s year as European Green Capital. The two day performance spectacular saw the conversion of Arcadia’s signature flames to biofuel – creating the world’s first recycled biofuel pyrotechnics system running in sync to some of the UK’s finest electronic musicians.

‘Truly one of the most spectacular shows we’ve ever witnessed’ Ministry Of Sound

‘If you have a sneaking suspicion that the last night on earth would be the best party you ever attend, you could do worse than test that theory at Arcadia.’ The Independent
