Sony has announced a two-day long Ghostbusters festival to coincide with the film’s 35th anniversary.

Released in December 1984, 2019 will celebrate 35 years of Peter, Ray, Egon, Winston and the rest of the gang.

Sony have teamed up with Ghost Corps and Wizard World to throw the two-day event in Culver City, California next year. It’ll take place on June 8-9th at the Sony Pictures Studio Lot in what’s been described as the “ultimate celebration of the film.”

A press release promises exclusive panels, meet-and-greets and themed augmented reality games. It’s also been confirmed that Dan Ackroyd and director Ivan Reitman will be in attendance. You can see the announcement video below.

An Alternative Reality (AR) Ghostbusters game was released earlier this year.

Taking on a similar premise to the hugely popular Pokemon Go, Ghostbusters World makes use of the Google Maps API to give iOS and Android players the chance to capture ghosts in everyday life.

Reitman described the games as “the perfect medium [for fans] to get to know [Ghostbusters] characters in a whole new dimension.”

Last year, Reitman spoke of his plans for more movies in the Ghostbusters universe. “We certainly would’ve loved to have a larger hit. But considering the last film was almost 30 years ago, it really did extremely well,” he said of the all-female reboot. “I think the film cost too much, frankly, and that’s the real issue. I personally had other points of view in terms of where the film should go and it was kind of a continuous conversation with Paul about that.

“But Paul was the filmmaker on this one and he’s a very talented director. I wanted to give him enough room to do the film he thought it should be. We jumped into an animated film and we are developing live-action films. I want to bring all these stories together as a universe that makes sense within itself.”
