SQRD premiere his new single and title-track off his new EP ‘Gold’ on The Line Of The Best Fit, his EP is due for release on July 22nd via Fresh Milk.
“Despite its sparse textures, “Gold” is rich with emotion and stays jaw-droppingly impressive from the first beat until the last. Bass builds to mighty cinematic highs, dynamic shifts inject tension, and a spindly synth motif is summoned for great melodic effect – SQRD’s latest offering is a momentous piece of synthpop.” – The Line Of Best Fit.
Swedish-born, Berlin-based Carl Robin Kirchmann is the man behind SQRD. He has a background in classical music and jazz, with a blend of low-key, dreamy electronica in his music. He has a master’s degree in mathematical engineering, which benefits him as creating music for him is like solving equations. Experimenting with sounds, vocals and instrumental textures, it’s not only with his personal tastes and musical disciplines; the result is his new EP ‘Gold’.
‘Gold’ captivates a blend of sonic components. It vocally reminds one of James Blake and Active Child. His courage can be heard across the title-track ‘Gold’. ‘Would Run Wild’ is a soft and sombre electronics meet melancholic with amazing vocals, accompanied by hypnotic rhythms. ‘I’ll Be Waiting’ shows the influence of Caribou and Mooderat; it lies with higher tempo and timbre. The themes running through the EP contrast with the first two tracks, showing SQRD’s musical journey along with his personal one.SQRD likes to explore and push the boundaries of writing electronic music. This EP shows his experimentation with different moods and tones both subjectively and sonically. ,” SQRD spoke about ‘GOLD’ EP,
SQRD likes to explore and push the boundaries of writing electronic music. This EP shows his experimentation with different moods and tones both subjectively and sonically. SQRD spoke about ‘GOLD’ EP,
“Writing music was an attempt to handle and process what happened and in the same way to find my own path. I sit for hours and hours, I forget about everything else, and just focus all of my energy on the music. Now when I think about it, this might also explain why I want to do everything on my own – the writing, singing and producing – it makes me feel independent and I can do whatever I want from the initial idea to finished track,” SQRD said about ‘GOLD’ EP.”
