Penrose are a Dublin-based indie, rock band. The band’s members are Darragh McGrane (vocals and lead guitar), CaolanFitzsimons (rhythm guitar and backup vocals), Mark Bolger (bass and backup vocals), Donal Bowens (drums and backup vocals) and Benji Hayes (key and backup vocals). The original lineup gained recognition by performing at venues like The Grand Social, Sweeney’s, Sin E as well as appearing on Radio Nova and Balcony TV.
The band’s name Penrose came to be when they saw it on the back of a “head stone in a grave yard,” they explain. They began as a two piece in 2013 and continued to add people until the foursome started playing together since late 2015.
With sounds of Oasis in their music, they say “it’s the classic indie rock sound” when asked about their sound in general, following on to say, “with 60s and 70s undertone”. They class their influences mostly with a mix of 60s and 90s times stating, “there’s too many to name off, but they’re all good.”
The band are going strength to strength since it began, they say their music is “honest, feel good tunes” which reflects these guys pretty well. They reached number three in the Irish charts with their debut EP Live For The Dream, and they state it’s been one of their highlights so far in their career in music.
Penrose plans to release a series of singles, then an EP with an album to follow shortly in the near future. They say we can expect “big strings, big solos and big hooks” with their new music.
When asked if they had any last words when ending the interview, they signed off with “Where do I sign….”
